SHARE Food Bank hosts a Food Bank Fill Up event, from 9 am. to 6 p.m. at PriceSmart Foods, 2991 Lougheed Hwy. (at Pinetree Way) in Coquitlam.

Help SHARE fill a semi trailer with food. Donations can be made by buying pre-packaged $10 or $18 hampers inside PriceSmart Foods or by dropping off non-perishable food or cash donations. Donations can also be made online at www. sharesociety.ca.

Port Moody Curling Club hosts a one-day learn-tocurl clinic, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Port Moody Recreation Complex, 300 Ioco Rd. Port Moody Public Library hosts a medal ceremony for members of its Strange but True Summer Reading Club, from 1 to 3: 30 p.m. in the Galleria at Port Moody City Hall, 100 Newport Dr. Highlights include refreshments courtesy of Thrifty Foods, face painting, balloon giveaways and activities with Port Moody recreation staff. Young readers will receive their reading medal and completion certificate on stage from special guests. Children registered in the Summer Reading Club can pick up their timed ticket at the library's information desk.

SUNDAY, SEPT. 9

Hog Wild About Reading Motorcycle Ride for Literacy runs from 9: 30 a.m. to 3: 15 p.m. Registration and a pancake breakfast runs from 8 to 9: 30 a.m. at the Backstage Grille at Boulevard Casino, 2080 United Blvd. in Coquitlam. The ride finishes at Barnes Harley-Davidson in Langley for a barbecue (with stops at the Sasquatch Inn and Harrison Hot Springs, where lunch will be available, as well as Duke's Pub). Everyone who donates $25 or more will be entered to win the grand prize, a weekend for two at Harrison Hot Springs. All makes and models of motorcycles, as well as cars, are welcome. Colony Farm Community Gardens hosts a tour at 3: 30 p.m., followed by tea and a chat. The tour will last about 45 minutes. Find out how the gardens work and see what can be grown using organic methods. Park in the south lot on Colony Farm Road. Meet at the pagoda. Info: www.cfcg.ca.

Coquitlam Fire Rescue celebrates 100 years of service with an afternoon of fun and entertainment for the entire community. Everyone is invited to enjoy a short ceremonial presentation by the Coquitlam Fire Rescue Honour Guard, and rescue demonstrations by fire crews. Firefighters will be on hand, along with vintage and operational fire trucks, for photos. Festivities include face painting, beverages and a barbecue. The event will take place at Spirit Square, 3000 Burlington Dr., from noon to 4 p.m.
