My Mum went into Eagle Ridge Hospital on June 9, 2012 and stayed there until Oct. 22, 2012 when she was transferred to a care home.

On Dec. 2 she was re-admitted to Eagle Ridge Hospital and sadly passed away Dec. 10, 2012 at the great age of 96.

My Mum was in emergency during both admissions and received excellent care. During her first long stay she was transferred to two different wards before going to the transition unit. On her last stay after emergency she went to the Palliative Care unit.

I want to give accolades to all the caring doctors and nurses who took care of my Mum during this time. Everyone was so caring, kind and loving not just to my Mum but to me as well.

My questions got answered and I felt like I was kept in the loop.

No, there are not enough care workers to go around, but they do the very best they can.

I only hope our government sees the need for more nurses and doctors before all us Baby Boomers need to be taken care of.

The transition care unit (TCU) at Eagle Ridge Hospital closed down Nov. 15, 2012.

Now the elderly who can't go home again wait in acute care beds for care home placement.

All the staff lost their jobs and had to apply elsewhere.

Hopefully they all got new positions.The TCU was great because the staff organized outings, lunches and teas for the patients so they had something to do while waiting for placement.

They can wait months for placement and acute care beds is not where they should be.

A big thank you to everyone at Eagle Ridge Hospital.
