The City of Port Coquitlam has extended the deadline for its Volunteer Recognition Awards to Thursday, March 21.

Nominations in seven different categories will be accepted for the 2013 awards, whose theme, Legends of Port Coquitlam, recognizes the important role volunteers have played since the city was incorporated in 1913.

Nominations can be made in these categories: Arts, Heritage and Cultural Awareness; Caring and Safety; Environmental Protection and Enhancement; Sports and Recreation; Youth Programs; U21 (youth under age 21); and Lifetime Volunteer.

Nominees can be any age and do not have to live in Port Coquitlam. They cannot have previously received a Volunteer Recognition Award from the city, and must meet at least one of these criteria:

. Their unpaid volunteer contributions provide extraordinary help or care to families or groups in PoCo,

. They continually commit their time, talent and energy, without pay, to improve the quality of life in PoCo, or

. They have been voluntarily involved in a program or project that has had a lasting benefit for PoCo and its residents.

Nomination forms are avail-able at www.portcoquitlam. ca/volunteer, and at City Hall and other city facilities.
