Forwardly named fast-food chain Fatburger is opening a flagship store in Coquitlam.

The 2100-square-foot restaurant is scheduled to open for lunch today (Friday) at 1090 Lougheed Hwy. - the old location of the Barnes Wheaton General Motors dealership.

"We are delighted to bring our newest Fatburger restaurant to the Tri-Cities area in a historic building that the owners have repurposed for a bright future," said Frank Di Benedetto, the Fatburger franchisor for Canada.

Unlike most Fatburger locations, this one is much larger with 25-foot ceilings.

"It's just a unique property and a chance for us to kind of showcase what the Fatburger brand is all about and have a unique footprint to do that," said Dan Pittman, Fatburger spokesman.

Fatburger will share the location with a PetSmart, Dollar Giant and Mark's Work Warehouse.

The California-based chain has been operating in B.C. since 2004.

It has 13 other locations in B.C., as well as stores in Alberta and Saskatchewan.
