They're creating history one stitch at a time.
A group of local embroiders are working on a wall-hanging project to commemorate Port Moody's centennial in 2013.
The collaborative effort, called Stitching Port Moody's History, will be permanently displayed in the Galleria.
Fibre artist Ann Kitching came up with the idea to depict significant events, buildings and scenes associated with Port Moody.
A graphic designer created the design, which will include a montage of selected images stitched onto individual panels.
Once complete, the panels will be attached to a background and mounted on a frame. Then community members will be invited to add a few stitches to fill in trees, birds and more.
"At the beginning of 2013, it will be in the Galleria on a frame so that anybody in the community can come put a few stitches in," Kitching said.
"We need hundreds of trees embroidered and we need flowers and blackberries. I would like people to feel that they've got a little part in it, and we will record the names of everybody that stitched. It will be quite lovely."
More stitchers are also required to create the panels.
