How can Port Moody justify a six-per-cent property tax hike with CPI (Consumer Price Index) inflation running at a third of that?
Don't they realize residents are lucky to see a one-to two-per-cent increase in their annual incomes in this economic environment?
Mayor Clay cites the increasing population's need for services as the main reason, but wouldn't these additional residents pay property taxes too? PoMo is proposing increased density with the arrival of the Evergreen Line, which will result in massive population growth. Based on this logic, taxes will increase exponentially together with increasingly clogged roads and crowded parks, etc. We need to stop the proposed densification to preserve the quality of life that PoMo residents currently enjoy.
