New career program tailored for newcomers

The Immigrant Services Society of B.C. (ISSBC) and the Terry Fox Library invite you to know more about the Skills Connect for Immigrants program on Oct. 2.

Are you a newcomer to Canada? Are you interested in connecting your skills to the Canadian workplace?

Come and learn about Skills Connect for Immigrants, an initiative by ISSBC that helps ease the transition of skilled immigrants into the Canadian workforce by connecting them with industry-specific skills training, credential evaluation and job search services.

If you are unemployed or working in a job that doesn't use your pre-arrival skills, the program is tailored for you. You may qualify for this program if you:

. Are unemployed or underemployed (working outside of your field or at a lower level)

. Are eager to learn and build your career in Canada

. Have a clear and reasonable job target

. Can speak at an intermediate to advanced level of English

. Have been in Canada less than five years and are a permanent resident

The presentation runs from 10: 30 a.m. to 12: 30 p.m. at the Terry Fox Library, 2470 Mary Hill Road, Port Coquitlam. To register, call 604-684-2561 ext. 2123 or e-mail skillsconnect@issbc.org.
