Coquitlam’s Sara Haghighat-Joo emerged from the boxing ring at the Elite National championships in Regina with a silver medal.
The 19-year-old’s ability to stand toe-to-toe with reigning Canadian champion Mandy Bujold was hampered by an injured foot, but the Maple Ridge Boxing Club member held her own in a decision in the flyweight final.
A member of Team B.C., Haghighat-Joo advanced to the final by besting Amanda Galle in a split decision.
Her brother Sasan, 17, was eliminated in the opening round in a split decision.
Earlier this year, the pair went undefeated at the Canadian Gold Gloves boxing championship — with Sara prevailing in three weight classes.
