COQUITLAM - Two of the three top scorers with the Coquitlam Express have been rewarded with some league-wide recognition.

The B.C. Hockey League announced its year-end award winners Monday, and Express forward Alex Petan took home the Vern Dye Memorial Trophy as the most valuable player in the Coastal Conference.

A 19-year-old Delta native, Petan led the Express in points (88) and goals this season (38), while also notching 50 assists in 55 games.

Alexander Kerfoot also got in on the awards bounty, netting both the rookie of the year

and most sportsmanlike player awards in the Coastal Conference bracket.

The 17-year-old West Vancouver product put up 69 points (25 goals and 44 assists) in his first full year in the junior A loop, and his six game winners led all Express shooters.

Winners of each of the BCHL awards were chosen based on surveys completed by league coaches and executives.

Having closed out the season last week in fourth spot, the Express will now take on the Coastal Conference champion Powell River Kings in the first round of the playoffs, which get underway this Friday, March 16.

More to come.
