TRI-CITIES — A Port Coquitlam man will get some face time in front of a judge after leading police on a two-hour chase through several Lower Mainland municipalities Thursday evening.

The incident began at 5:30 p.m. after the RCMP’s Air One helicopter spotted a motorcycle rider driving dangerously while crossing the Pitt River Bridge.

The bike was clocked at 150 km/h on the Lougheed Highway and was later seen posting speeds in excess of 200 km/h on Highway 1.

Police vehicles attempted to stop the motorcycle, but the rider kept speeding away.

Eventually the ground chase was called off for the safety of the public.

The pursuit took the rider and the police chopper through several Lower Mainland communities, including Coquitlam, Burnaby, New Westminster, Richmond, and Vancouver.

Just before 7 p.m. the motorcycle was seen pulling into the underground parking lot of the Metropolis at Metrotown.

But the wayward speeder wasn’t done.

Police said the man tried to flee in a waiting SUV in the lot, but was pulled over shortly after leaving the mall by a Vancouver Police Department unit.

A man and a woman were arrested.

A 2012 Ducati motorcycle was seized from the parking lot of Metrotown, while a 2006 Range Rover, which was being driven by the woman, was towed following the arrest.

Police are recommending charges against a 29-year-old Port Coquitlam man for dangerous driving and criminal flight from police.

The name of the man was not released pending approval of charges.

The driver of the SUV is not facing charges.
