The City of Port Coquitlam will host the final installment of its Cinema Under the Stars series this Friday at Sun Valley Park.
This week's feature is Despicable Me, an animation featuring the voices of Steve Carell, Jason Segel and Russell Brand.
The film follows a criminal mastermind as he uses the help of a trio of orphaned girls in a grand scheme - during which he discovers that love is the most profound power of all.
The film is rated PG for "rude humour and mild action," and was nominated for "Favourite Family Movie" at the People's Choice Awards, as well as "Best Animated Film" at the Golden Globe Awards.
The screening starts at 8: 30 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 24. If the weather seems uncertain, check the city's Facebook page for updates that day about whether the event will be postponed.
If it begins raining while the movie is on, it will be postponed to the following Friday at the same time and place.
Port Coquitlam firefighters will be at the screening to let anyone who is interested check out a fire truck.
Staff and volunteers from G&F Financial, which is supporting this summer signature event for the third consecutive year, will hand out free popcorn, giveaways and prizes.
Also joining the festivities will be PoCoMotion, a community initiative focused on supporting and promoting healthy lifestyles and encouraging residents to become more physically active.
Children, youth and adults will be invited to try a range of new sports from 7 to 9 p.m. before the film begins. Activities include baseball, soccer and taekwondo.
Sun Valley Park is located at 3700 Hamilton St., at Lincoln Avenue.
