Judging from their recent media announcements, the provincial Liberal government agrees that health care in B.C. is in desperate need of a make-over - particularly in services to those suffering from mental illness, addiction and dementia who require long-term treatment.

We need to immediately reopen Valleyview, the geriatric psychiatry building on the Riverview lands, which until recently provided quality care to patients in a beautiful setting.

Some people need residential care for their safety and well being. It is obvious that deinstitutionalization is not working.
