An imam at a mosque in Port Coquitlam will be back in court next month.
Saadeldin Bahr made his first appearance in Port Coquitlam provincial court through his lawyer Monday.
He has yet to enter a plea and will make a return court appearance on Oct. 2. On Sept. 12, Coquitlam RCMP announced charges against Bahr, the imam and president of the Masjid Al-Hidayah and Islamic Cultural Centre located at 2626 Kingsway Ave.
In a press release, RCMP noted the charge was approved by Crown counsel on Sept. 11.
According to the release, in June, Coquitlam Mounties initiated an investigation into a report of a sexual assault at the mosque.
No other details about the alleged assault were given.
At the time, the Coquitlam RCMP asked anyone with information that could advance the investigation to come forward.
