The gourmet burger market just got a bit bigger in the Tri-Cities.

A Vera's Burger Shack recently opened up in Port Moody's Newport Village, offering another local option for quality meats after the area's first Fatburger opened in Coquitlam in mid-October.

The Port Moody shop, located at 254A Newport Dr., is the company's 17th location in Metro Vancouver.

"We've been busy pretty much every day except for Thanksgiving," said store manager Cody Phelan.

"We're already an established name, so that definitely helps.

"This area in Port Moody, we've got a lot of people living in the buildings surrounding us, so it's the perfect kind of thing for lunches or dinners especially."

Voted "Best Burger in Vancouver" in the Georgia Straight's annual readers' poll for nine straight years, the company's slogan is "You Can't Beat Vera's Meat."

"Our slogan speaks for itself," Phelan said. "But you really can't beat our quality. With our patties, we make them every day."

Vera's Burger Shack is open from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. seven days a week.
