COQUITLAM — Residents and drivers are being asked to avoid all roads within the Cape Horn Interchange for the weekend while construction crews have numerous routes blocked.

Starting Friday night, through to Sunday night, various parts of road network will be shut down as a new overpass linking eastbound Lougheed Highway to Highway 1 eastbound is connected. The overpass is scheduled to be open to traffic by Monday morning.

Next weekend is scheduled to be just as bad, if not worse, Highway 1 improvement project spokesman Max Logan said, with Highway 1 being reduced to one lane in each direction while crews demolish sections of the old Cape Horn interchange.
