SHARE Family & Community Services Society hosts a free alcohol and drug addiction education workshop, from 7 to 8: 30 p.m. at 2615 Clarke St. in Port Moody (second floor). The topic is "Stage II Recovery - Life in the Future." This series of workshops is designed for those who have an alcohol or drug problem or for those concerned about their use, as well as people affected by others' use. Eagle Ridge Hospital Auxiliary hosts a used book sale from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. in the main lobby of Eagle Ridge Hospital, 475 Guildford Way, Port Moody. Funds raised through go towards the purchase of equipment and patient comfort items.

Fraser Health and Eagle Ridge Hospital present a twohour workshop by the staff of the High Intensity Rehab program and the Acquired Brain Injury program, at 6 p.m. in the hospital's Parklane Room, basement level (475 Guildford Way, Port Moody). This is an opportunity for survivors, families and friends of people with a stroke or brain injury to learn about some of the services and programs available in the community. Seating is limited. Coquitlam Public Library hosts a summer reading club kickoff party featuring the instructors of Mad Science demonstrating cool experiments for children four and older and their parents. Poirier branch registrations will take place from 10 to 10: 30 a.m. with the show running from 10: 30 to 11: 30 a.m. at the Poirier Sport and Leisure Complex (633 Poirier St.).

The Protein for People Project invites the public to a free community barbecue, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Mountain View Elementary, 740 Smith Ave. in Coquitlam. A kids fun zone will be on site, as well as information and resources for families facing challenges. Info at www.proteinproject.ca.
