It was a busy Wednesday morning for Coquitlam RCMP, who were investigating an overnight shooting and the separate discovery of a body. Mounties were called to a mobile park unit in the 100 block of King Edward Street around 11 p.m. Tuesday to a report of a shooting. Investigators found a victim in his mid 40s suffering from a non-life-threatening gunshot wound. The Coquitlam resident was taken to hospital, but later released.

The detachment's major crimes section is investigating, but few details have been released regarding the incident.

"At this point we don't have a lot of information to give out," said RCMP Cpl. Jamie Chung.

There is no word on any suspects, nor did RCMP provide a possible motive, however, scanner chatter from that night reported it was a drug deal gone wrong.

"One of the angles we're going to be looking at is if it was somehow related to some other activities this person was doing, or the attackers are doing," Chung said.

In a separate incident, a portion of Lougheed Highway was shut down for several hours during Wednesday morning's commute after a passerby discovered a body near the Coquitlam River bridge around 7 a.m.

"There is no indication to suggest foul play or an accident," Chung said.

The name of the person was not being released, as efforts were underway to notify family members.
