One of Canada's largest community credit unions is offering grants to local organizations within Coquitlam and Port Coquitlam.

VanCity is offering grants from $1,000 to $10,000 to organizations in the region that help create sustainable places to live, projects focusing on educating people on how to build their financial knowledge or projects that offer positive change in the community.

Funding is provided for up to 70 per cent of the total program or project budget. As well, some grants are tailored for conferences, workshops and forums (up to $2,500) and funding for community festivals (up to $1,000).

The deadline to submit applications is Sept. 17.
