Re: "Affordable housing helps single mothers," Wednesday, Oct. 24.
Thank you for your article explaining how affordable housing has improved the lives of 30 women and their children living at the YWCA's Como Lake Gardens.
I would like to emphasize the role the City of Coquitlam played in the creation of Como Lake Gardens.
This project was a partnership between the YWCA, the City of Coquitlam and BC Housing, which was precipitated by the City of Coquitlam making the land at 528 Como Lake Ave. available on a long term lease at no cost to the Provincial Homelessness Initiative.
The project would not have happened without Coquitlam council recognizing the difference the city could make in lives of families struggling to make ends meet.
The benefits will be realized not only by the single mothers living at Como Lake Gardens, but by their children as they grow into adulthood.
