PORT MOODY — It’s been three weeks since a noted gangster was gunned down in the parking lot of the Port Moody Recreation Complex, but so far, the case isn’t any closer to being solved.

The Vancouver Police Department, which took over the investigation from the Port Moody Police Department, had investigators out at the recreation centre last weekend putting up posters of a potential suspect vehicle, in the hopes of getting a lead.

VPD Const. Lindsey Houghton said there is a possibility the shooter was driving a newer model Nissan Murano.

However, police have received no tips since putting up the posters.

Houghton indicated it’s not uncommon for an investigation into a gang shooting to move very slowly.

“It could take months or years, if it’s ever even solved,” he told The NOW.

Gurbinder Singh Toor, 35, of Squamish, was shot on May 30 in the recreation centre parking lot, and later died in hospital.

Toor was known to police and had connections to the Dhak/Duhre crime group.

According to VPD investigators, it appeared the victim was exiting his car just after 9:30 that night to go play ball hockey when he was shot.

A dark-coloured SUV was reportedly seen fleeing the scene.

At the time, hundreds of people were using the centre, while dozens heard the shots being fired.

The parking lot was closed for hours following the shooting.

It was the first homicide in Port Moody in years.

The VPD is asking anyone frequenting the recreation centre to have a look at the poster and give the Vancouver police homicide unit a call at 604-717-2500 if they have any information related to the shooting.
