An unusual theft in PoCo has Mounties and the victim scratching their heads.
Sometime between Tuesday evening and Wednesday morning, thieves managed to steal a 36-kilogram (80-pound) purple amethyst crystal from a store in the 2600 block of Kingsway Avenue.
"It seems like they knew what they were doing," said RCMP Cpl. Jamie Chung. "They went straight for the crystal."
Chung suggested the job was no small task, given the crystal was the size of a couple of basketballs.
Investigators aren't sure if there was more than one suspect involved in the theft.
The store's owner discovered the theft Thursday morning.
While police didn't reveal the name of the business, Chung said it is the first time thieves had gone after the special jewels. The items taken include the amethyst crystal, three "singing bowls" and an apophyllite crystal. Police note the items are very unique and worth thousands of dollars.
Chung isn't sure if someone stole the crystals for a personal collection or to sell.
Mounties are asking anyone with information to call 604-945-1550 and quote file 2012-29188.
