Kids can find their favourite series quickly and easily with the Port Moody Public Library's new paperback series collection.
From Geronimo Stilton to the Rainbow Magic Fairies, all of the library's most popular paperback series titles are now together in one central location.
Previously, popular children's series books were mixed in with the library's general paperback titles. Many younger readers found it difficult to pick out their favourite series books, and had trouble locating the titles they were most interested in, according to a press release from the library.
The new paperback series collection is designed to help these readers easily locate the books they want, and introduce them to similar titles.
Series books are wildly popular with readers of all ages. Many adults will remember reading through the entire Sweet Valley High or Hardy Boys series in their youth. Today's kids are no different: they love following the adventures of their favourite characters through madcap series adventures.
For reluctant readers, series books provide a powerful way to engage the interest of kids who are challenged by standalone novels. The predictable plots and recurring characters in series books give children a chance to increase fluency, understand narrative structure, and build confidence in their identity as a reader. Although library staff believe all kids will enjoy browsing the new paperback series collection, tentative readers will benefit the most from this change.
Come in to the library and browse this new, incredibly popular collection. Check out some bestsellers (Captain Underpants, anyone?) or introduce your kids to some of your childhood favourites (Nancy Drew is waiting!).
As always, you can request expert help in finding the perfect book from the library's children's librarians.
