Three years and three first-place awards for the City of Port Coquitlam's social media outreach.

The city earned a three-peat nod at the annual Community Excellence Awards held at the Union of B.C. Municipalities convention in Victoria this week.

The award recognizes the city for using social media, namely Facebook, Twitter and blogs, to engage citizens in dialogue.

PoCo was the first city in Metro Vancouver to have a Facebook page in 2008, and it now incorporates social media, e-mails, blogs, online surveys, videos and photo-sharing to have a two-way conversation with constituents.

"We've been working hard to ensure our citizens have an opportunity to participate in everything we do at the city, and social media plays a major role in that," said Mayor Greg Moore in a press release.

"It's encouraging to continue to be recognized for our use of technology as a communications tool. We'll continue to be a leader in finding new ways to engage our community."
