COQUITLAM — The end of the calendar year did nothing to bring a close to the strange calls for Coquitlam Mounties.

The detachment was busy on New Year’s Eve dealing with a number of incidents, including one related to zombies.

Police were called to a report of a teen trying to escape from the undead.

When officers arrived, they found the teen passed out on his vehicle.

“We determined he did not suffer any serious injuries — whether they were inflicted by zombies or not — and he was transported to a hospital in an ambulance,” said RCMP Cpl. Jamie Chung.

Plenty of Tri-Cities revelers also decided to indulge in a little too much zombie action for themselves on New Year’s Eve — of the alcoholic variety.

Police were called to several calls about drunks yelling and stumbling on the street and even sleeping in the road.

The RCMP’s drunk tank proved a popular hangout with as many as 10 people behind bars at one time.

Mounties also dealt with a dozen noise complaints throughout the night, alcohol-infused fights and an argument over “figurines.”

It appeared to be a little quieter across the city line in Port Moody.

The most serious incident happened at 7:30 p.m., when a pedestrian was hit by a vehicle near Noons Creek Drive and Ungless Way.

The woman was in the crosswalk when a vehicle making a left turn hit her.

She was taken to hospital with minor injures, and the driver stayed at the scene.

Police are not considering alcohol a factor and no charges are being sought in the incident.

The Port Moody Police Department also handled several other calls, including an assault after a fight broke out between a group of youths.

Police said the altercation began when a 17-year-old teen confronted a 15-year-old boy after allegations were made that the younger teen had been acting inappropriately toward the 17-year-old’s sister. The younger teen was punched and had a bleeding nose.

The suspect was arrested, released on a promise to appear and turned over to his guardian.

The department was also called out to Ioco Road to deal with a group of about 30 rowdy teens banging on the windows of passing buses.

The kids fled before police arrived.

The department also handed out a three-day impaired driving prohibition and dealt with various drunken arguments at parties, as well as loitering calls and noise complaints after midnight.
