PORT COQUITLAM —The outdoor weather has arrived just in time for the outdoor music.
The City of Port Coquitlam will kick off its two signature outdoor concert series this weekend, with Village Vibe performances set for Saturday, July 7 and Music in the Park set to get underway on Sunday, July 8.
Intended for emerging artists in the fields of dance, music and improv, the Village Vibe series opener will feature a whole lot of shaking going on, as participants from six different dance studios will be showcasing their talents.
Covering off on hip hop, Latin, ballroom, bellydancing, Bollywood, classical Indian and more, the participants include Arthur Murray Dance Studio,
Coastal Edge Dance, Mellado Dance Elite, Merlyn Prakash, Sheela Anand
and Shimmy for the Soul Bellydancers.
Saturday’s inaugural Village Vibe performance is slated from 2 to 4 p.m. at Leigh Square.
One day later, the Music in the Park series will return to its home at Lions Park with a performance by The Bent Nails.
Formed in 2005, the six-piece group is described as equal parts blues, roots and country, and their sound is akin to The Wailin’ Jennys and Buddy Miller.
Designed for professional musicians from across Metro Vancouver, the Music in the Park series runs every Sunday — weather permitting — from 2 to 4 p.m. at Lions Park.
