Hoisher Bajwa was just doing his job Sunday morning, guarding a construction site at Pitt River Middle School in Port Coquitlam.

Now the elderly security guard is recovering in hospital after taking a beating from three suspects.

"You can't imagine how they hit him. It was very cruel," said Arvinder Panesar, the owner of Canuck Security, the company that employed Bajwa.

"I'm still in shock."

Coquitlam Mounties were called to the school shortly before 4 a.m. to a report of an assault.

According to Panesar, a man approached the victim asking for help, apparently telling the security guard he was being followed.

During the conversation, two men came up and started attacking Bajwa.

They laid on such a beating he required more than 100 stitches to his head.

The 65-year-old victim from Surrey managed to call dispatch for help.

On Monday, Bajwa was still in hospital in stable condition.

RCMP Cpl. Jamie Chung said investigators aren't sure what sparked the incident, as the victim wasn't able to provide much detail at the time of the attack.

"It is serious and that's why our major crimes unit is working with uniform members to investigate the file," he said.

Investigators were hoping to speak with the victim on Monday to get more details.

The victim was able to provide police with a rough description of one of the suspects, noting a Caucasian man, standing five feet, seven inches tall and wearing a striped hoodie.

Police were also expected to canvass the area looking for witnesses as part of the investigation.

Chung described the neighbourhood on Tyner Street near the school as a typical residential area.

"That part of town is relatively quiet at night," he said.

Panesar noted his company had been working at the site for the last three months without incident before Sunday.

He visited his employee in the hospital the day after the attack, and was appalled by the beating.

Panesar is calling on police to catch the suspects before someone else gets hurt.

"If they're allowed to go free, then they will attack somebody else again," he warned.

He said his company would do what it can to help Bajwa, whom he described as "a very polite guy," in his recovery.
