Searchers looking for a hiker who began a solo trek two weeks ago and failed to arrive at his Coquitlam destination have renewed hope this week.
Tyler Wright, 35, was driven by a friend to the Boise Creek Trail area east of Squamish and dropped off on Aug. 10. He planned to hike through the mountain range and meet up with family and friends in Coquitlam on Aug. 15.
More than a week after his anticipated arrival date, there is still no sign of him.
According to Squamish RCMP, the hiker has very little experience with wilderness hiking, is wearing running shoes and did not take a tent or sleeping bag with him.
RCMP began to search for the man on Wednesday, Aug. 18 when he was reported missing. Members of the Squamish Search and Rescue team flew over the area in two helicopters from 5 a.m. to sundown.
Searchers recently found a footprint and tamped down day bed area. According to RCMP, these recent discoveries have given focus and direction to the search.
"The footprint was found on [the] side of a trail in Boise Creek area, and it is estimated that it would have been from about Day 2 of the hike," Cpl. Dave Ritchie said in an e-mail to The NOW.
The search continues in both the Squamish and Coquitlam areas.
Squamish search teams are looking east and south of the Boise Creek Trail and the Bull Canyon areas, while the Coquitlam Search and Rescue teams are searching north and west of the Widgeon Lake area.
