Carlo Basso wasted little time in helping to lay the foundation for a good old fashion walloping.
The Coquitlam native and standout SFU soccer player scored in the opening minute of last Friday's contest against Trinity Lutheran.
That tally held up as the winner, as the Clan went on to dismantle the Eagles 9-0 in SFU's final non-conference game of their schedule.
One day earlier, fellow Coquitlam product Jovan Blagojevic scored SFU's opening goal against the visiting Hawaii Pacific Sea Warriors in what ended as a 2-1 victory for the Clan.
Basso and Blagojevic then teamed up to assist on the eventual game-winning header notched by Richmond native Colin Jacques.
"I gotta thank my teammates," said Jacques. "They really tired out the starters in the early going. We came in with fresh legs. We were able to take it to them and score a couple goals."
The Clan wrapped up non-conference play with a 4-0 record, and took on the Montana State University Billings Yellowjackets in their conference opener Thursday after Tri-Cities NOW deadlines.
