If you're planning on quenching your thirst at Buntzen Lake this weekend with an alcoholic beverage, consider yourself warned.
The Coquitlam RCMP rural section and its boat squad are stepping up beach patrols now that summer has officially arrived.
That message came too late for some last Saturday (July 7), as police had 93 liquor pourouts at the lake. It's a large number, according to local Mounties.
"It's pretty significant for them to have 93 liquor pours," said Cpl. Jamie Chung.
With summer temperatures expected to stick around through the weekend, he suggested the increased patrols are a good reminder for people that alcohol and public places don't mix.
"Just leave the booze at home," Chung said.
The police weren't only pouring out alcohol.
Mounties also made four drug seizures, turned away five vehicles from the front gate for trying to bring booze into the park, and escorted a prolific offender from the beach.
