The Terry Fox Ravens put exam week behind them with a pair of big exhibition wins in senior boys AAA basketball action.
The No. 7-ranked Ravens came from behind to knock off the No. 8 Kitsilano Blue Demons 74-73, with guard Jesse Crookes delivering the win on a huge three-point buzzer beater.
They followed that by besting MEI of Abbotsford 83-45.
Against Kits, Fox ran into some foul trouble and saw an early lead flipped into a 13-point Blue Demons advantage at halftime.
Although the offence started to chip in, the Port Coquitlam squad had its hands full against their Vancouver rivals. In the fourth quarter the Ravens closed the gap and pulled within two points with just six seconds left in the game. A quick turnover resulted in Crookes' last ditch shot.
Ryan Sclater led Fox shooters with 20 points, while Kaleb Grebrewold and Crookes knocked down 11 each. Stepping up with a huge performance on defence was Tyrel Ratich.
In the win over MEI, Sclater scored 24 points and Tanner Moss added 15. Chipping in with 13 points was Trevor Casey.
"As a team, things are beginning to come together and we are starting to execute things more efficiently," said Terry Fox co-coach Brad Petersen.
"We are getting contributions off the bench and seeing results from the hard work the team has put in the gym."
In league action, Fox is 4-0, only bested by Pitt Meadows' 6-0 record.
The Ravens host North Surrey tomorrow (Thursday) and Heritage Woods on Friday, both tipping off 7: 30 p.m. at Terry Fox Secondary.
The Centennial Centaurs, meanwhile, improved to 4-1 in Fraser Valley North league play with a 7557 win over Pinetree. It came on the heels of losses to Walnut Grove (77-66) and Heritage Woods (77-61).
The Port Moody Blues evened their record to 2-2 with an 89-83 overtime victory over Heritage Woods, while the Pinetree Timberwolves collected their first win of the regular season, a 54-50 decision over North Surrey.
League play continues tonight, 7: 30 p.m. when Port Moody hosts Fraser Heights. On Thursday, Riverside takes to Pinetree in search of their first win, while Fraser Heights visits Dr. Charles Best.
