Six wins in a row are nothing to sneeze at, especially if you play basketball in the rough and tumble Fraser Valley senior girls AAA Tier I league.

The Centennial Centaurs continued their climb up the charts with a pair of victories this week, including Tuesday's 73-50 triumph over Delta.

Along with decisions over W.J. Mouat, Fleetwood Park, Chilliwack and No. 10ranked Yale, the Cents have moved out of Middle Earth territory in the new 12-team Tier I circuit.

That the regular season started 0-2 - thanks to drawing No. 1-rated Brookswood and No. 2-ranked Riverside to kick off the year - didn't set them back too far.

"They are such a great group of girls to coach, this team has good chemistry," remarked head coach Rob Sollero. "We really rely upon our speed and transition play."

Against Delta, the Centaurs were in control early, led by five-foot-11 post Shayna Litman.

The senior cashed in 32 points, while point guard Shanice Fuoco-Guy delivered a handful of three-point buckets.

Rounding out the team's veteran core are captain Olivia Aguiar and six-foot-two Nicole Medici.

"Those four log a lot of minutes for us." Centennial recently made its debut in the provincial rankings as an honourable mention.

A pair of Grade 11s - speedy Allison Colquhoun and forward Amy Kirby - add to a deep roster that includes Grade 10 forward Veronica Aguiar.

The Cents' margin of victory has been pretty convincing, including a 45-point edge over Walnut Grove and 23 points better than Fleetwood.

Their toughest win was a five-point decision over Yale.

Because of league realignment, which saw the elimination of regional leagues at the highest level, all 12 Tier I teams will advance to the post-season. They will be joined by the top four teams from Tier II for a 16-team showdown for provincial berths.

"Our goal from the beginning was to get better and better each game, and so far we've improved and kept working hard.

"If we can keep it up, we'll go into the playoffs in a good position," said Sollero.

. In other Valley Tier I action, the Gleneagle Talons knocked off the Terry Fox Ravens 50-43 on Tuesday.
