Cerenzie commits to SFU Clan

Outgoing Riverside Secondary product Laiken Cerenzie became the second Rapid in as many weeks to take her act up Burnaby Mountain.

A five-foot-eight forward, Cerenzie announced Tuesday that she has committed to suit up for Simon Fraser University's women's basketball team next season.

"Laiken is an unorthodox basketball player," said SFU coach Bruce Langford in a press release. "On first appearance she has a rather unrefined skill set but it is quite deceiving. Her shot may not look great, but she had the second best three point shooting percentage on a good high school shooting team."

In 35 games last season, Cerenzie averaged 10.7 points per game, good for third on her team. She was also an HSBC Classic all-star in 2009 and 2011, and a provincial second team all-star in 2010.

She will join fellow Riverside product Michelle Spacek, who committed to SFU last week, for the upcoming season.

"One of the big selling points on SFU was the girls who are already on the team. All of them love being in the gym and they love playing together," Cerenzie said.
