Coquitlam's Taylor Chan brought home one of Canada's six medals at last week's junior women's international gymnastic competition in Combs-La-Ville, France.

The TAG Sports Centre athlete captured gold on vault, posting a score of 4.40 difficulty and 9.10 in execution.

Fellow TAG member and open division athlete Nicole Chow finished fifth overall. On the balance beam, Emily Blackner, also of TAG, placed fourth overall.

Other Canadian medal winners were Heaven Latimer of Burford, Ont., who won the all-around silver and led Canada to the team gold medal at the five-country meet, Ivy Lu of Montreal, and Sydney Townsend of Waterloo, Ont., who won bronze on both vault and uneven bars.

POCO-RIDGE PICKS UP RINGETTE SILVER

The Port Coquitlam-Ridge Meadows under-16 A ringette team pushed it right until the final at the Burnaby Icebreaker tournament before falling 6-2 to Surrey.

Without their regular goaltender, PoCo had four players rotate between the net during its six games.

They were edged by Surrey 4-2 and Fraser Valley 4-3 to start the tourney, but bounced back to beat Vernon, Shuswap and Burnaby to earn a rematch with Surrey in the championship final.
