The Vancouver Northeast Chiefs continued their upward climb in B.C. Major Midget Hockey action, thanks to a pair of wins over the Valley West Hawks last week.

The Chiefs clobbered the Hawks 6-2 on Friday, cashing in on four powerplay chances.

Six different players got on the scoreboard - Mathew Barzal, Boston Colley, Peter Matthews, Mathew Michie, Kurt Sonne and Brandon

Volpe. Chipping in with four assists was Dalton Yorke.

The Coquitlam-based Chiefs followed that with a 7-2 decision, getting two goals from Connor Burk, Matt Hermary and Colton Kehler.

The Chiefs now sit fourth overall with an 11-5-2 record, just two points back of second place.

PANTHERS HUMBLED

If there's daylight at the end of the tunnel, the Port Moody Panthers are waiting for it.

The junior B hockey club suffered two more losses last week, falling 5-1 and 7-4 in a pair of games with the North Van Wolf Pack.

Max Fiedler posted two goals in the most recent game, with singles by Martin Campbell and Fraser Sutherland.

The Panthers host Ridge Meadows this Saturday, 7: 45 p.m. at the Port Moody Arena.
