The Simon Fraser University Clan showed no holiday rust on Wednesday with an 83-61 exhibition victory over the University of Manitoba in women's basketball action.
The Clan got 20 points and 11 rebounds from Vernon's Nayo Raincock-Ekunwe, while Port Moody's Kelsey Binns contributed 16 points.
"It's always nice to get that first win after the Christmas break," remarked SFU assistant coach and Port Coquitlam native Courtney Gerwing. "It's tough to be sharp after a week off. We weren't great defensively, especially in the first half.
"We talked about that at halftime and I think we improved in the second half."
Six minutes into the contest SFU held a 14-4 lead, but Manitoba started to make its shots. The Clan held a solid 44-32 edge at the half.
Port Coquitlam's Kristina Collins chipped in seven assists.
SFU improved to 6-3 on the season.
