BURNABY — Port Coquitlam’s Kristina Collins has been a virtual sparkplug during her senior season.

The Simon Fraser University women’s basketball player enjoyed another stellar week, leading the Clan to a pair of victories en route to being named the Great Northwest Athletic Conference’s Red Lion Co-Player of the Week.

Collins accumulated 27 points and a team-high 14 assists in SFU’s wins over Central Washington (67-60) and Northwest Nazarene (73-52).

The five-foot-10 guard surrendered just one single turnover and contributed four steals over the two games, while spearheading the Clan’s intense, defence-first approach. The held Northwest Nazarene to a 22.2 per cent shooting from outside the arc on Saturday.

The twin wins allowed SFU to clinch at least second place in the GNAC and a first round bye in the conference tournament, which tips off March 6.

Collins, a fourth-year veteran and graduate of Riverside, shares the award with Alaska Fairbanks’ Samantha Thornton.

SFU wraps up its conference schedule with away games at Western Oregon on Thursday and Saint Martin’s on Saturday.
