It's been a long road of recuperation and recovery, but Coquitlam's Brittany Rogers continues to amaze in her return to the gymnastics competitive mat.
The teenager was named Sport BC's 2011 Harry Jerome Comeback Award winner on Wednesday.
Less than two years ago, the 18-year-old Rogers suffered a broken ankle on a beam dismount at the Pacific Rim championships.
It could have been career-ending, but Rogers persevered through surgery and diligent rehabilitation that saw her return to the world competitive stage last year.
At the 2011 Osijek Challenger Cup World Cup in Croatia in November, she was the only Canadian to qualify in all four event finals. She secured silver on vault.
Last month, Rogers was one of seven gymnasts who helped Canada secure a berth to the 2012 Olympic Summer Games in London. She'll now focus on making Canada's Olympic Team.
"It takes a certain level of passion and drive to overcome the obstacles Brittany Rogers has faced," said Carey Summerfelt, manager of sponsorship and events at Sport BC. "She is among Canada's best female artistic gymnasts and, through her power, conviction and dedication, returned to full form to be a top contender in her sport."
Rogers will be honoured March 8 at Sport BC's 46th annual Athlete of the Year Awards. Past Harry Jerome Comeback award winners include alpine skier Emily Brydon and rower Silken Laumann.
