Coquitlam native Megan Pinske was named Thursday to the final 16-player roster for the senior women's national basketball team for the upcoming Jack Donohue International Classic series.

The former Port Moody Secondary guard, who played the past year with Sarrlouis of the German pro league, will be part of the Canada's team that will take on the Chinese Olympic team in a three-game series starting next Wednesday in Langley.

The three-game tourney will help prepare Canada for the upcoming Olympic Qualifying tournament that runs June 25 to July 1 in Turkey.

Pinske, 23, is one of just two B.C. players to make the cut - joining Mission's Teresa Gabriele.

A five-foot-nine guard, Pinske was a member of last year's Canadian women's development squad that finished third at the FIBA Americas Olympic qualifiers.

CALVANO NAMED EXPRESS GM

The Coquitlam Express announced this week that Jon Calvano will add general manager to his list of responsibilities.

The B.C. Hockey League club's head coach and director of player personnel will now take the lead on all on-ice decisions, taking over from club president and part owner Darcy Rota.

"Jon and I have worked closely over the last two years and he's taken the lead on recruiting," noted Rota. "He has a very good handle on the recruiting process, he has done a very good job over the past two years and will continue doing that.

"For me it means maybe just a little less stress." Calvano will be in charge of player acquisitions and recruiting process, while Rota will serve as an advisor.
