It's heading into crunch time for those whose game is on ice, hardwood and the pitch.

For some teams, that means it's time to step forward and make a statement, deliver on that promise or keep revving that motor. Here's a selection of this week's actions and worthy events to check out:

JAM CITY

When it comes to senior boys hoops, the Heritage Woods Kodiaks and Gleneagle Talons are following similar paths. The two Fraser Valley North squads are making a serious push for a top-four spot in the league and need to keep up that momentum. At 4-1, the Kodiaks expect a tough challenge from the 5-1 Talons. The winner of Thursday's contest (7: 30 p.m. at Gleneagle Secondary) will achieve an extra bounce heading into the final few weeks of league play.

PUCK LUCK

The year of the dragon can't end soon enough for the snake-bitten Port Moody Panthers of the Pacific Junior B Hockey League. Winless in 2013, the last-place 531-2 Panthers continue to put up some valiant performances in the gritty Harold Brittain Conference. On Saturday (7: 45 p.m. at the Port Moody Arena) the Martin Campbell-led Panthers have a shot at their sixth win of the season when they take on 7-27-2 Mission.

SHOOTING FOR TWO

While high schoolers fuss over January exams, another hugh test comes calling for the Terry Fox senior girls basketball team. The Fraser Valley Tier I squad hosts No. 2-ranked Brookswood on Monday (6 p.m. at Terry Fox Secondary) with an eye on using the underdog card. Led by B.C. all-star Katie Devaney, the Ravens are a scrappy, hardworking team that is still searching for its first league win of the year.
