The Coquitlam Express' newest addition has already cemented his future.
Port Moody native Jace Hennig agreed to an NCAA division one scholarship with Merrimack College for the 2013-14 season.
The 16-year-old Hennig, who has played just 12 games with the Express, including seven games as an affiliate, started the 2011-12 season with the major midget Vancouver Northeast Chiefs, where he was second in league scoring.
He had a league high 24 goals in 22 games prior to joining Coquitlam full time.
At five-foot-eight and the youngest player on the club, the winger collected his first junior A goal last week and in 12 games has a goal and three assists.
He made an immediate impression with the Chiefs coaching staff when, despite missing the previous year and a half due to an injury, he cracked the lineup and became a big part of the league's highest scoring line with teammates Adam Rockwood and Jamie Waddington.
"[Hennig] has been a great addition," remarked Express coach Jon Calvano. "For a player who was out of hockey for two years, he got off to a great start in major midget and was a nice addition whenever we brought him up as an affiliate."
