The roads continue to be a dangerous place for pedestrians this fall.

Another pedestrian, this time in Port Coquitlam, ended up in hospital after being hit by a car in a crosswalk along Shaughnessy Street Sunday night.

The driver checked on the woman to see if she needed help after the crash.

The pedestrian managed to get on her feet to make her way to a nearby friend's home. From there, she was driven to the hospital, where she was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

Coquitlam RCMP Cpl. Jamie Chung said police would like to speak to any witnesses, including the driver, to get the entire story.

"It's dark and wet out there; both drivers and pedestrians have to look after each other so everyone can get home safely," he said.

Police are offering tips for both drivers and pedestrians to stay safe on the roads.

Pedestrians are urged to wear light-coloured reflective clothing to be more visible to drivers, use marked crosswalks and follow pedestrian traffic signs and signals and look both ways before stepping off the curb.

Drivers are warned that posted speed limits are for ideal driving conditions, and to adjust speed to allow for extra room to safely stop on a wet, slippery surface.

Motorists are also reminded to stay focused on the road and scan for pedestrians, who may run across the road without looking to get away from the rain.

Earlier this month, a woman was hit crossing Brunette Avenue along Schoolhouse Street. That pedestrian received only minor injuries, but several pedestrians have been hospitalized or killed after being hit by vehicles in other parts of Metro Vancouver this year.
