PORT MOODY - All was quiet on the eastern front over the last weekend of 2012, as local police and fire forces had little to contend with over the back half of the holiday season.

The majority of incidents the Port Moody Police Department dealt with centred around impaired driving: five 90-day immediate roadside prohibitions (IRPs) were issued; two three-day IRPs were handed out; and one 24-hour driving prohibition was issued to a driver who had been using crystal meth.

Officers also stopped three people for driving while disqualified - essentially driving without a valid licence.

Outside of those calls, Port Moody police dealt with a break-and-enter at a local salon, during which $10,000 worth of high-end styling products were stolen.

"This is not an uncommon type of theft as thieves will often target specific items such as makeup, cologne, perfume [and] styling products, which can be resold," Port Moody police Const. Luke van Winkel wrote in an e-mail to The NOW.

Firefighters in Port Coquitlam, Coquitlam and Port Moody had low to normal call volumes, with no major incidents taking place over the weekend.
