Nathan Wadhwani enters this weekend’s B.C. High School Cross Country championships in Aldergrove with more than wind in his sails.
The Terry Fox distance runner topped the competition at last week’s Fraser Valleys, winning in a time of 19:43.33 over the six-kilometre course. He placed nearly 24 seconds faster than his nearest challenger.
Coming in 14th was brother Isaac Wadhwani, with a time of 21:53.01, while Nathaniel Kang of Pinetree placed 22nd and Mussaab Ahmed of Port Moody finished 30th.
In junior boys, Joshua Kozelj of Heritage Woods took second overall on a 5km course with a time of 16:56.80, less than 12 seconds behind first.
Placing 14th was Heritage Woods’ Graham Lyon, while Tyler Andrew of Pinetree came in 20th.
On the senior girls side, Riverside’s Olivia Willett completed the 4km course in 15:41.72 to finish third overall, just 14 seconds behind winner Sarya Ross of W.J. Mouat.
In fifth position was Dr. Charles Best’s Addy Townsend, with a time of 16:02.52. Mikaela Smart of Archbishop Carney stood 22nd, while Best’s Alex Patey placed 28th.
Saira Purhar of Centennial finished 10th in junior girls, while Stephanie West of Riverside was 16th.
